Question: Does anyone know of any fun and quirky hobbies i could try out?
(Posted by: Sophie on 2010-03-05 13:21:47)
I really want to try out a new hobby that's, fun, quirky, unusual and inexpensive. I'm not really into sporty things or collecting, but I'm open to ideas. At the moment I am 14 years 10 months old, and I'm a girl (obviously :P ) so I'm not really going to be into skydiving or really extravagant things. Thank you :) :D <3 |

Consider recycled or upcycled crafts - you can get most of your supplies for free AND help the environment. You could try making beads from junk mail or pages from old magazines - you could string them into jewelry yourself, or some people even sell them on sites like Etsy.com. You could 'felt' a wool sweater (either an old one of yours or an inexpensive one from a thrift shop) then cut it apart to make mittens, a hat, or a purse. You could turn candy wrappers, drink pouches, chip bags or plastic bags into purses and totes, or even rugs. You could collect a variety of old/ broken items like watches, jewelry, locks, pieces from electronics, games or puzzles, or keys and create interesting new jewelry, picture frames, or wall art. You can find instructions and lots more ideas on sites like craftster.org, squidoo.com, or featheredfibers.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 02/ 21/ upcycling-crafts/ . Good luck and enjoy! |

Glass engraving or jewelry box making. Sure you have to invest up front, in the long, run they turn out to be rewarding. |

Origami is a great hobby. Most people think its boring and all about flowers but you can make really cool and amazingly brilliant things once you become experienced. I've done it for years and I'm a teenage boy. Here's some links to get you started: giladorigami.com/ swami/ - loads of simple and harder diagrams britishorigami.info/ - British origami society website origamitube.com/ index.php - origami videos origamivideo.net/ - origami videos and type complex origami into google - some cool stuff but a bit too difficult for beginners It's certainly an unusual hobby and really fun! |

Lacemaking is fun and inexpensive--For most kinds of lace you're looking at an investment of under $20, not counting instructional books. I would check out tatting first, as that's the easiest to find references for (and you can buy needles or shuttles at Hobby Lobby). In a similar vien, you might also try embroidery. Also fun, but a bit pricier is hatmaking (millinery). |
